I run a 12 inch glass pack and 27 inch fishtail outlet pipe. Lower backpressure than any HD muffler. Have used for 4 years with no harm to the bike whatsoever. I also run a plus one heat range sparkplug, have the white spacer still, and turned the airscrew out to 3.5-4 turns depending on altitude. Runs hot, but has more power than the stock pulleys can transmit to the ground. A sportster (piglet) pipe is a bit better flowing than the stocker, but backpressure levels are similar. Both are a bit too restrictive for a 4 inch bore cylinder. Good old noise emissions standards, no one wants to hear us.
Unlike the stock Savage muffler (at least the first two on my 98), Sportster muffler rot from the inside out. The packing material is hydroscopic.
